قد ألف كثير من العلماء قديماً وحديثاً كتباً في منشأ الخلاف،وأسبابه، والمؤلف رجع في بحثه إلى ما كتبه العلماء في أسباب الخلاف، وتتبع ما كان منشوراً من ذلك في مواضيع شتى، وما كان مفرقاً في أماكن مختلفة في كتب التفسير والحديث والأصول والمقارنة، فجمع شتاتها، وفحص ما فيها من آراء وما تعود إليه من أسباب، واستخلص من ذلك ما وضح طريقه وقوى سنده، فجاء بحثه شافياً وافياً
