The chair is one of many personal items left behind when the July 2007 fire displaced around 40 residents from the reinforced concrete building in Kohinata, Bunkyo ku, Tokyo. Built in 1927 to house Taiwanese students studying in the Japanese capital, the dormitory stood for 80 years before the fire ended its occupation. Part of
